  • Tamworth became a city in 1946.

 

  • The city is known as the "First City of Lights"- being the first place in Australia to use electric street lights in 1888!

 

  • Tamworth hosts one of the top 10 music festivals in the world- the Country Music Festival. A massive 10 day event held every January that includes over 700 artists, a 50,000 plus crowd of music lovers and over 2800 events!

 

  • In 2008, the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre was opened. The city is recognized as the "National Equine Capital of Australia" .and holds numerous equine events throughout the year drawing large crowds to the citys’ centre.
