Police and road safety authorities are urging road users to ‘give way to safety’ as they launch a high-visibility road policing strategy for the festive season.
Operation Safe Arrival starts at midnight on Friday and ends 11.59pm on New Year’s Day.
Double demerit points will be in force throughout the period for speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone and motorcycle helmet offences.
NSW Police officers will also be targeting other poor driver behaviour, including drink-driving and drug-driving.
School zones will still apply up until December 20 and falls within the double demerits period.
