The $14.8 million upgrades to Tamworth Public School were inspected by Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell this morning.

School Principal Chris Connor accompanied Minister Mitchell and Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson as they toured the new facilities and chatted with leading students.

Minister Mitchell squeezed the visit in before jetting off to Sydney for cabinet meetings and said she remembers being in Tamworth for the sod turn and it's exciting to see the finished project.

"As a local girl, I'm so excited to see this investment in Tamworth," said Minister Mitchell, "It's incredibly important that our regional schools have access to the best possible learning facilities."

The upgrade includes seven new learning spaces, a new community hall, new staff facilities, three activity areas, and the refurbishment of the former teacher's cottage which is now used for before and after school care.

The competition of works at Tamworth Public School marks the 50th and final project across the state during 2020.

Minister Mitchell said it's part of a massive investment in school infrastructure across NSW.

"$6.7 billion has been allocated to work on and upgrade 190 schools across the state over the next few years," Minister Mitchell said.

Member for Tamworth thanked the staff and students for continued learning throughout the refurbishments.

"Credit to Chris Connor and all the staff and students for working through not only the COVID-19 pandemic but also managing this project site to where it is today," Mr Anderson said.
