$2.4 million roadworks commencing at Timbumburi

Roadworks on a 2.3km section of the New England Highway south of Tamworth have commenced with drainage work getting underway this week.

The $2.4 million project is slated to improve road safety for the heavily transited section of the road about 16 km south of Tamworth at Timbumburi.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said it's vital to maintain the highway that doubles as an essential freight route for the entire North West of NSW.

“This particular section of the highway is used by thousands of cars and heavy vehicles

each day, so it’s great we’re able to deliver safer, smoother and more reliable journeys

through this upgrade.

The project has engaged 12 local suppliers and contractors to complete the works that will be carried out between 7 am and 6 pm Monday- Friday and 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.

Lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place and the work is expected to be completed by mid-December, weather permitting.
