“Tamworth is fast becoming a major player for regional sports in the country” said local MP Kevin Anderson as he announced the final piece of funding required to get the million-dollar Treloar Park project underway.
The $3.45 million redevelopment was waiting on a final funding boost of $600,000, which has since been handed down by the NSW Government as part of the Regional Facility Fund.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said it was exciting to be able to be a part of the project which will see yet another major sports infrastructure development in Tamworth.
“We have world class hockey, athletics and basketball facilities and this project will only add another feather in the cap for our city’s sporting infrastructure,” Mr Anderson said.
Treloar Park facilities will see an upgrade of 13 tennis courts, as well as clubhouse redevelopments. This move provides Tamworth with the opportunity to host ITF level events and junior, senior and veterans’ tournaments.
Mr Anderson notes the significance sporting events have on Tamworth’s local economy.
“Our hoteliers and businesses have already seen the benefit of previous sports infrastructure upgrades with vacancy rates becoming almost non-existent when our city holds major sporting events,” he said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said he fully supported the redevelopment.
“This new injection of funding will not only ensure its future but will take the complex to a new standard of excellence.
“The project will generate immediate and ongoing economic benefits and delivers on my ongoing efforts to see a better standard of living for people in rural and regional areas, so more people settle here and established residents stay.”
Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray said that he was excited to see another world class sporting facility being built in our region.
“We are looking forward to starting this project, and I would like to thank the NSW Government for their generous support.”
Total contributions include $1.4 million from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, $975,000 from West Tamworth League Club, $225,000 from Tamworth Regional Council and $200,000 from Tennis NSW.
