At around 9:30 pm last night Craig Henry Rumsby was arrested and charged by detectives re-investigating the murder of Michelle Bright, whose body was located near Gulgong more than 21 years ago.
This comes just days after the NSW Government increased the reward for information connected to the murder, to $1 million dollars and renewed appeals for information on Monday 10th.
Michelle Bright then aged 17 was last seen by friends after they dropped her off at Herbert Street, Gulong after a birthday party.
Three days later her body was located by the side of Barneys Reef Road in the long grass.
Despite multiple reward announcements and a coronial inquest in 2009, no one had been arrested for the Murder of Michelle Bright until now.
The man was arrested, taken to Mudgee Police station and questioned by detectives from Strike Force Mitcham II, where he was later charged murder, two counts of inflicting actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with the victim and attempt choke/strangle with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The accused was refused bail and will appear in Mudgee Local Court today.
Police said there will be a review into all information collected before the reward can be handed out.
