Armidale shout “Enough is Enough” in the Women's March4Justice
Hundreds of survivors and allies of sexual assault victims from all over the New England region have attended the Women's March4Justice in Armidale yesterday. Event organiser Bobbijo Haworth told 92.9FM she was proud of the local turn out.
“We were expecting initially around one hundred people, so the estimates of three hundred and fifty or so that came today is quite a bit more than we were expecting on such short notice”.
The planned National day of action reverberated around Australia, with an estimated 85,000 people who marched in a desperate plea for gender equality. This Nationwide protest was sparked following the wave of recent allegations in the Australian parliament.
Organiser Bobbijo Haworth jumped on ensuring the region hosted a march, to show solidarity and support for local survivors of sexual assault. “Some people travelled from as far as Glenn Innes today to come to Armidale to march so I think overall it was a big success”. Protesters marched to MP Adam Marshall’s office, demanding action against gender violence and inequality.
“It shows the power of what enraged women can do when we work together”.
