'Backroad Nation' named Top Selling Australian Country Album


Lee Kernaghan’s Backroad Nation has been announced as the Top Selling Australian Country Album of 2019.


Tamworth Regional Council and the Country Music Association of Australia Inc announced the loved singer as the recipient of the 2020 Golden Guitar Award.


ARIA sales data determine the winner of the Top Selling Australian Album of the Year award for albums of new material, first released in 2019.


Backroad Nation was released in May 2019 and produced by award-winning Australian songwriter/producer, Lindsay Rimes.


Debuting at #1 on the ARIA Country Album Chart, it held the top spot for multiple weeks and continues to hold in the Top 10.


The album also impacted #3 on the ARIA All Genre Album Chart and #1 on the iTunes Country Album Chart. The title track reached #1 on the National Country Airplay and CMC charts.


Following the album’s release, Lee spent the remainder of the year on the Backroad Nation National Tour, covering 48 shows and counting. Most of the Backroad Nation tour dates sold out and the tour will be extended into 2020 with more dates to be announced.

Toyota Golden Guitar Awards Executive Producer, Peter Ross, said: “There’s no better way to spend your Saturday night at the Toyota Country Music Festival than in the company of some of country music’s biggest stars, enjoying the performances and celebrating this incredible industry.”


The Toyota Golden Guitar Awards will be held at Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre during the Toyota Country Music Festival, Tamworth on Saturday, 25 January 2020.
