Centacare NENW launches new gambling support service for the New England Region

A new gambling service provider has commenced operations across the New England. GambleAware, replacing Gambling Help, has been appointed to Centacare New England North West (NENW). Centacare NENW Clinical Regional Manager, Tim Rawson, said his team is looking forward to supporting the community.

“The new Hunter New England GambleAware service provides a broad range of gambling support and treatment options for the local community, including financial and therapeutic counselling”, said Mr Rawson.

“We’re proud to be providing this really important service and look forward to continuing to support clients throughout the region.”

The move to GambleAware is part of a redesign of how gambling information, education and support are delivered across the state.

Tim Rawson said the “transition will continue to see us delivering appropriate gambling support and treatment services to the people who live and work in this region”.

Director of the Office of Responsible Gambling, Natalie Wright, said GambleAware “unites all gambling support services and is focused on supporting the entire community”.

The new program includes support for those who may be at risk of experiencing challenges due to a gambling addiction.

According to the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority 2020 Annual Report, Tamworth Regional Council has 144 gambling licences in force. Armidale has 73, Gunnedah 30. The report also outlines Tamworth LGA has 199 poker machines, generating a net total of $27,549,877 in 2019/20.

As well as the name change and new regional service approach, online bookings and additional self-help options will launch later this year.

GambleAware Hunter & New England is funded through the NSW Government’s Office of Responsible Gambling. GambleAware provides information, education and support for anyone affected by gambling in NSW.
