Council Moves Forward on Events Levy

Tamworth councillors have voted to move forward on the proposed new events levy and will submit an application to the Independent Pricing and Regulation Tribunal (IPART) for a special rate variation of 2% per year for 3 years starting from the 2020/21 financial year.

The rate variation was amended from the original recommendation of 3% to commence in 2019 and will have no impact on residential properties or farming land.

If approved and implemented the levy will bring a total of approximately $400,000 per year in for council to use to attract new events to the region.

Speaking after last nights decision, Mayor Col Murray says council expects to be notified about the results of their application to IPRT by mid year.

"That matter will now be submitted to IPART for consideration and council would expect that we might hear of the determination by around May this year." Murray said.
