Two hundred and eight Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Emergency Services Academy graduates are set to fill a collection of permanent and on-call positions around the state.
Seven of the new graduates have been appointed to the Tamworth electorate.
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said the appointment of extra FRNSW recruits to the electorate delivers a welcome boost to our emergency services.
“Two have been allocated to the Manilla Fire and Rescue Station, two for South Tamworth and a further three allocated to Tamworth On-Call,” Mr Anderson said.
Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott congratulated the new permanent and on-call firefighters and wished them well as they commence their service to the community.
“Becoming a firefighter is no easy feat. FRNSW attracts up to 8000 applications each year, yet of these thousands, only a small number are chosen,” Mr Elliott said.
The new recruits will not only face fires, but are trained to respond to various incidents and events including medical emergencies, natural disasters, car accidents, environmental and hazardous material emergencies and counter terrorism.
Fire and Rescue NSW received a record investment of $900 million this financial year, to support frontline firefighters in protecting lives, property and to continue to stay prepared and ready for anything.
Mr Anderson said the latest allocation of Fire and Rescue personnel follows last year’s official opening of the $5 million state-of-the-art South Tamworth Fire Station and Zone Office.
“It’s a great example of the NSW Government’s drive to modernise facilities and provide the necessary personnel to staff them, so that improved services can be delivered to our community,” Mr Anderson said.
