Forensic Examination Required as Investigations into the Cause of the Hanging Rock Fire Continue

Police are appealing for the public’s assistance as they investigate the cause of the fire that has now burnt more than 1250 hectares.

On Sunday emergency services were called to reports of a bushfire in the Nundle State Forest.

Police with the assistance of NSW Rural Fire Service fire investigators commenced inquiries into the cause of the fire on Monday.

Investigators, with the assistance of the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services Command, attended the scene and conducted forensic examination of the site.

Inquiries continue.

Oxley Police District Acting Crime Manager Jason Darcy urges the public to report any suspicious activity.

“Police are seeking assistance from the Nundle community who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area where the fire originated on Sunday,” he said.

“Police are also seeking assistance from the community with any video footage relating to the incident, including images posted to social media.”
