Tamworth Hockey's position as the leading regional Australian Hockey Association is near with a $9.636 million upgrade of the hockey centre heading for completion.
Mark O'Connor, president of the association, it was great to see the upgrade progressing magnificently.
Mayor Col Murray said he wanted to highlight the $800,000 contribution that the Tamworth Hockey Association is making alongside Council's $1.636 million towards this project.
"This precinct is capable of attracting exciting new events to our region while nurturing local athletes and their clubs," he said.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the city's hockey centre is being transformed into one of the best in the country.
"Funding this hockey centre will encourage more people to enjoy the game, to get out and do some exercise," he said.
"It will also bring large numbers of visitors to the town, and this will benefit our businesses who provide accommodation and meals.
'It's a fantastic win-win for the sport and the city."
Mr Anderson added the construction work was supplying extra jobs for residents.
