Multi-vehicle crash closes Oxley Highway at Somerton


Four people have been taken to hospital in a stable condition following a crash on the Oxley Highway.


UPDATE:


There are currently alternating stop/start traffic conditions in place. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra travel time.


EARLIER:

Motorists are advised the Oxley Highway is currently closed north-west of Tamworth following a multi vehicle crash.


Just before 3.45pm today, emergency services were called to the Oxley Highway at Somerton, after a multi-vehicle crash.


Five vehicles and a semi-trailer were reportedly involved in the crash and a number of people are being treated for their injuries.


A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said they got a call just after 3.30pm.


"We had six crews on scene," he said.


:We had a total of four patients; a 33-year-old man with minor head injuries, a 37-year-old man with chest pain, a 50-year-old man with neck pain, and a 28-year-old man with head lacerations.


"When we arrived the 28-year-old was trapped, but was successfully helped out of the car by emergency services.


"All patients were taken to Tamworth hospital stable condition."

The highway is currently closed in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid the area.


Motorists traveling from Gunnedah will need to divert to Rushes Creek Road toward Manilla.
