Namoi Unlimited Launches Project to Future Proof the Region's Water

Water security, access and infrastructure will be put under the microscope as part of Namoi Unlimited’s new ‘Water for the Future’ project.

'Water for the Future' will determine the requirements and priorities for future supply, demand, access and quality of water needed in relation to agricultural productivity and the growth of the economies and communities in the Namoi region.

The five member council’s that make up Namoi Unlimited will invest $120,000 into the project this financial year.

Acting Chair of Namoi Unlimited and Mayor of Tamworth Regional Council Col Murray says we need to be proactive in future proofing our water supplies.

“We need to get ahead of the game, to plan and prepare our water security for the future." Murray said.

"For this region to continue to thrive, we need to understand our water needs now and into the future.

“As a regional group of councils we want to help Walcha Council sure up its supplies and provide Gwydir Shire with support to increase it's capacity.

“For all five councils water infrastructure takes a long time to plan, develop and fund and we want this region to be ahead of the game.”

Work has already begun on the project with a final report due mid-year.

Any individual or organisation wishing to be involved in the project should contact Namoi Unlimited at www.namoiunlimited.nsw.gov.au or email info@namoiunlimited.nsw.gov.au.
