NDIS self-management workshop comes to Tamworth

Giving those who access crucial funding the power to manage their own packages is just one mission of an organisation.

Resourcing Inclusive Communities, an Initiative of Family Advocacy NSW is coming to Tamworth to run a one-day workshop covering the key components of self-managing an NDIS package.

Catherine Hogan, who has a daughter with a disability, will be running the program this month.

She said that for many years, disability programs and support arrangements have been determined by providers.

Ms Hogan added that the NDIS has a goal of increasing the number of people who are self-managing their funds, as it provides control, flexibility, and more options, particularly to people living in regional areas.

"This truly individualised approach enables the person with a disability to be at the centre of planning and designing their supports, that can lead to much better outcomes for the participant," she said.

Ms Hogan also wants to dispel myths that have been spread around the NDIS system.

The workshop is for people with disability and families who want choice and control, and current self-managers who need more information on the “nuts and bolts” of the system.

It will run on February 17 from 9am to 3.30pm at the Wests Leagues Club.

The cost is $30 for people with disability and families, and $50 for professionals, including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
