New COVID-19 drive-through testing clinics to open in Tamworth and Gunnedah

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

Laverty Pathology will operate two drive-through clinics in Tamworth and Gunnedah, such as the pictured one at Tamworth hospital.

Two testing clinics will open their doors in the region to test residents with symptoms of coronavirus.

Both Tamworth and Gunnedah will house the testing sites opened by Laverty. It will be Gunnedah's first drive-through clinic.

General manager Matthew Brumby said the company is opening the drive-through clinics to make it for more people to be tested as lockdown restrictions begin to ease and business and community activity begins to return.

“Anyone can come to the drive-through for collection of a swab specimen for COVID-19 testing," he said.

"All people need is a pathology request form from their doctor and they will be able to use the drive-through clinic. “This is by far the easiest, safest and most convenient way for anyone to be tested for COVID- 19.” The Tamworth site is located at 128 Marius Street, from 2pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Gunnedah's clinic will open at 27 Marquis Street from 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday and Thursday

Residents wishing to use the service will need to arrive in a vehicle and have their pathology request form from their doctor, their Medicare card and ID.

Patients must remain in their vehicles at all times while a collector in full protective equipment will perform the test.

Test results are generally provided to the referring doctor within 24 hours of the samples reaching the laboratory. Patients may elect to have negative results sent to them via SMS. Any patient with a positive result will be contacted directly by the GP referring them to the clinic.
