Residents of Manellae Lodge, Manilla now have modern technologies that will allow them to stay connected with family and friends no matter where they live.
Four new iPads are being purchased using grant money the Manilla Local Health Committee has received from the state government.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said he is delighted to present the grant and help residents stay connected with their loved ones.
“The initiative promises to bring many benefits to those in the Manilla Multi-Purpose
Service aged care wing,” Mr Anderson said, “When used to communicate with family and friends, iPads can go a long way towards bridging the great divides of distance, time and even generations."
The $3,200 one-off grant isn't the biggest splash of cash across the electorate, however, it is going to have real benefits for some of the most invulnerable our society.
Research has found communication technologies (such as iPads) are an effective intervention strategy for decreasing loneliness and social isolation for elderly Australians, which is more important than ever during 2020 and current social distancing guidelines.
