Another event has fallen to the COVID-19 axe, as the Northern Inland Academy of Sport announced the cancellation of the 2020 National Primary Games.
Organisers have made the decision due to changes imposed by federal and state governments that have seen public gatherings banned as social distancing is enforced.
"For sport, this has meant that winter sports face the real prospect of not happening in 2020 and events like the NPG are certainly off the radar," NIAS said in a statement.
"We have been following the advice of the various forms of government as well as the NSW Office of Sport.
"At present, there is no fixed date for the return to play and this has meant that we have no choice but to cancel the event for 2020."
The event brings in an estimated $2.3 million to Tamworth, with more than 2000 children usually attending.
NIAS said it would like to thank the community for its ongoing support of the event over the past five years.
"We cannot wait to welcome you back to Tamworth again in 2021," the statement concluded.
