Operation 'Sunny-side up' hopes to draw tourists with sunflower blooms

A new program encouraging residents in the Liverpool Plains Shire to plant sunflowers will kick off this month in an effort to entice bloom seeking tourists.

Operation Sunny-side Up hopes to create a sunflower trail around the Shire by providing residents with free sunflower seeds and encouraging them to plant between the 12th and 18th of October.

The promotion has been developed by the local Visitor Information Centre who already have an alert subscription service for tourists interested in seeing the sunflowers.

The Council hopes the sunflowers will draw tourists because the idea is COVID Safe and provides a fantastic photo opportunity that will be shared on social media with the hashtag #liverpoolplainssunnysideup.

Free sunflower seeds will be available between the 12th and 15th October from the following locations;

  • Newsagency, Quirindi

  • Art and Craft Shop, Quirindi

  • Liverpool Plains Shire Administration Centre

  • Werris Creek Library

  • Currabubula Pub and Café

  • Premer Pub

  • Spring Ridge Public School

  • Caroona General Store

  • Walhallow Public School

  • Blackville Public School

  • Visitor Information Centre, Willow Tree

  • Wallabadah Public School
