Setting the scene for seniors

Tamworth Regional Council is hosting a range of free events for senior citizens during the 2024 Seniors Festival which kicked off Monday March 11 and runs until March  24

As the largest seniors festival in the southern hemisphere, events are targeted towards providing quality connectedness between seniors, through recreational and educational activities.

The festival celebrates the role and contributions of seniors to our local communities.

Tamworth Regional councillor Judy Coates says seniors play a huge role in communities and are often volunteers for a wide range of community groups. Being able to provide opportunities specific for seniors is a fantastic way of saying thank you and to help keep their connectedness with the community.

Reach Beyond is the festival’s theme for 2024, and activities that will run in the Tamworth region include:

·  Cultural activities and morning teas at Barraba, Manilla and Nundle library branches on Tuesday 12, Friday 15 and Tuesday 19 March respectively

·  Miriidhuul Creations Art and Culture Connection at The Youthie on Wednesday 13 March

·  Ngaar Wirribiiyan at The Youthie on Wednesday 20 March

·  Oz Harvest Nutrition Education Skills Training program – featuring learning activities and games in a group setting, building skills and knowledge on nutrition and practical cooking skills. Facilitated by HealthWISE and held weekly for 6 weeks at The Youthie starting Thursday 14 March.

The events are supported by the NSW Government through the NSW Festival Grants Program and more details of events in the region can be found here www.destinationtamworth.com.au/event/2024-seniors-festival
