Staff barricade themselves in office during armed robbery

Staff at a petrol station barricaded themselves in an office when an armed thief walked into their workplace.


About 4am on Saturday, a man allegedly armed with two large knives entered a service station on Marsh Street, Armidale.


Two staff members observed the offender approaching the console area and immediately moved to a nearby office where their manager was located and barricaded themselves in.


The man attempted to force entry into the office unsuccessfully prior to stealing the locked till.


The man, who was wearing a hooded jumper, bandana and wearing gloves fled the location and was last seen heading north towards the carpark adjacent to the service station.


A crime scene was established, and an investigation is underway.
