Sporting fans will now have the chance to watch two major events right here in Tamworth.
At last night’s meeting, councillors supported a proposal to invest $30,000 in a Super Rugby game later this month and a National Rugby League game in May.
Sponsorship for the Super Rugby is $10,000 with a match between the NSW Waratahs and the South African Bulls on March 21.
The NRL sponsorship is $20,000 with a game between West Tigers and the Canberra Raiders on May 9.
The Super Rugby has not previously been played in Tamworth, but NRL premiership games have for the past two seasons with each drawing more than 9,000 spectators to Scully Park.
A report tabled to the meeting said the estimated overall total economic impact of the NRL game is $2.14 million.
