After a close call, Tamworth's firefighters are urging people to check their smoke alarms as cold snaps see a rise in the use of heaters.
On Friday night, fire crews from 508 West Tamworth and 452 Tamworth were called to a house fire in South Tamworth.
On arrival, firefighters found a house up in flames so crews quickly got to work and extinguished the blaze.
Initial reports said residents were unaccounted for so firefighters carried out a search and found they had self-evacuated to the backyard to care for their dogs.
They were removed to a safe location and all the dogs were unharmed.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated but an online statement said information from the residents was the fire started due to goods stacked to close to the fireplace.
