The new Dungowan Dam is one step closer with stage one of funding announced by the state government.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the region has seen much-needed rain but is still dealing with the repercussions of the drought and the disastrous effect it has had on our communities.
“The announcement from Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Water Minister Melinda Pavey comes at a great time as we are recovering from the devastation of drought and bushfires and dealing with the current COVID-19 crisis," he said.
“This project will create buyer confidence in our region for industry, developers, farming, irrigation and home-owners alike providing opportunities for growth.
“We need to keep the pressure on and providing water security for Tamworth with the construction of the new Dungowan Dam is vital."
Mr Anderson said this funding will go towards the commencement of Stage 1 of the Dungowan Dam project to prepare for shovels in the ground and getting on with the job.
"We are on track to begin works at the end of this year with the new dam to be completed by 2025," he said.
“This project is a fantastic opportunity for the region injecting much-needed funds to bolster our economy creating hundreds of local jobs, securing the water supply and providing social and economic benefits for Tamworth and surrounding communities.
“Results can be achieved when we work together."
