Tamworth Public School upgrade 'on track'


The multi-million dollar upgrade of Tamworth Public School, which includes seven new contemporary classrooms and a new hall is on track to finish this year.


The project will include seven new permanent teaching spaces, a new hall, refurbishment of existing spaces into staff facilities, refurbishment of teaching spaces to include associated activity areas and covered walkways to facilitate all-weather access.


Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said it was fantastic to see the project progressing.


“We want our children to have the best education possible, and providing world-class facilities is a key part of that," he said.


“This project at Tamworth Public School will deliver the excellent resources our wonderful teachers and students in the electorate deserve."


Mr Anderson said the work is expected to be completed midway through the year.

He added that during the drought, it was crucial to invest in the community.


“There are also at least six or seven local businesses working as sub-contractors on this project, a great result for local jobs in these tough economic times," he said.

"I'm really pleased that local jobs, on a local site, keeps the economy ticking over in what is the worst drought on record."

Principal Chris Connor said it was a self-contained building site.


"We've been able to work around it rather than having to go through it in any way," he said.

"The contractors have been very open with their communication.


"I have weekly meetings with the contractors about the work that's going to be undertaken each day so I can warn the community if there's any traffic movement or if there are any noise concerns.


"Basically the school's operating as normal, just in more of a confined space."
