Three Tamworth students have been recognised as top performers in the Newcastle Permanent's 40th annual Primary School Mathematics Competition.
Lucas Strugnell from Tamworth Public School and Joshua Suter from Calrossy Anglican School both won year 5 District awards and Aditi Rajput from Calrossy Anglican School won the year 6 District award.
The exam saw over 17,500 students across 290 schools put their numeracy and problem-solving skills to the test this August with zero help from calculators, rulers or other mathematical instruments.
Aditi Rajput a year 6 student at Calrossy said she was very happy to win the award.
"I really like Maths," Aditi said, "I found some questions easy and other questions hard."
Joshua Suter, who is only in year 4 at Calrossy, took the year 5 exam and expressed a similar sentiment.
"I feel very pleased to win the award," Joshua said," I really love maths I want to keep doing it all the way through school."
Newcastle Permanent’s Tamworth Branch Manager, Julie Callander, presented the winners with a special award and prize account to acknowledge their achievements.
“I’m very proud to meet and congratulate the bright young people who have shown themselves to be passionate about maths and its everyday application. It’s clear these students have an aptitude for maths and we’ll no doubt see big things from them in the future,” Julie Callander said.
