Updated: Oct 12, 2020

A fire has ripped through the main street of Mungindi, North of Moree devastating the community and destroying several businesses.

Shortly before 8 pm on Tuesday 1st September the fire broke out and spread down the main street rapidly.

Mungindi's only supermarket, butcher and a clothes store have all been completely destroyed leaving locals without anywhere to get essential items.

NSW Rural Fire Service attended the scene and told 92.9FM no one was injured in the fire.

Fire and Rescue, Police and Paramedics from both NSW and Queensland Services attended the scene trying to contain the fire and keep the street area under control.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshal has quickly responded with $100,000 dollars in emergency funding to establish a temporary store and ensure locals can access their basic needs.

The RFS will be on scene today to investigate the cause of the fire.
