TOP TEN MARIAH CAREY SONGS

This weekend on 92.9 we're bringing you the top 10 Mariah Carey songs

10. Shake It Off

Shake it off peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, blocked by Carey's own "We Belong Together" and Kanye West's and Jaime Foxx’s "Gold Digger" for six weeks. Furthermore, it marked the first time a female lead artist occupied the top two positions of the Hot 100.

9. Don't Forget About Us

"Don't Forget About Us" became Carey's seventeenth chart topping single on the US Billboard Hot 100, tying the record for most number-one singles by a solo artist set by Elvis Presley36 years before.

8. Touch my Body

E=MC² (2008)

"Touch My Body" became Carey's eighteenth chart topper on the Billboard Hot 100, making Carey the solo artist with the most number one singles in United States history, surpassing the record held by Elvis Presley. Additionally, it gave Carey her 79th week atop the chart, tying Presley for most weeks at number one.

7. Emotions

Emotions (1991)

"Emotions" became Carey's fifth consecutive number one hit on the U.S. BillboardHot 100, giving her the distinction of being the first (and, to date, only) act to have their first five singles make number 1 on the Hot 100. (She had previously shared a record of four with The Jackson 5.)

6. Heartbreaker

Rainbow (1999)

Originally, "Heartbreaker" was intended to be part of Carey's debut film soundtrack, Glitter, however, after the film's delay, it was included on her album Rainbow. Prior to the song's radio release, Carey spoke of it in an interview: "It's pretty much [in] the classic style of my up-tempo classics like 'Fantasy' or 'Dreamlover,' [...] But it's kind of fun and has a new edge to it, I think, and definitely having Jay-Z takes it to a whole 'nother level. And [DJ] Clue makes it really fun and stuff."

5. Hero

Music Box (1993)

Due to fan requests and letters, as well as their connection to its personal meaning and content, the song remains one of Carey's most performed songs. Deemed by many as her signature song, the song was originally performed on The Arsenio Hall Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Hey Hey It's Saturday during its original chart run. She's even re-recorded it twice and made additional videos!

4. One Sweet Day

Day Dreams (1995)

Both Carey and Boyz II Men wrote the song about specific people in their lives, being inspired by sufferers of the AIDS epidemic, which was globally prevalent at the time.

3. Fantasy

Day Dreams (1995)

"Fantasy" became the second song in Billboard history, and the first by a female, to debut atop the BillboardHot 100. Additionally, aside from topping the Hot 100 chart for eight consecutive weeks, the song topped the charts in Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and was a top-five hit in Belgium, Finland, France and the United Kingdom.

2. Dream Lover

Music Box (1993)

"Dreamlover" holds the joint title of the highest debuting song on the BillboardPop Songs chart, entering the chart at number 12 on the week dated August 14, 1993, being tied by Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" in 2014.

  1. We Belong Together

Following a relatively unsuccessful period between 2001 and 2004, critics dubbed the song her musical comeback, as many had considered her career over. "We Belong Together" earned her several music industry awards and nominations throughout 2005 and 2006. The song broke chart records in the United States and became Carey's sixteenth topper on the US Billboard Hot 100. After staying at number one for fourteen nonconsecutive weeks, it joined four other songs in a tie as the third longest running number one song in US chart history, behind Carey's own 1995 collaboration with Boyz II Men titled "One Sweet Day". Billboard listed it as the "song of the decade" and the eleventh most popular song of all time!!!
