UNE runs Poultry Hub Jobs Program for young and Indigenous job seekers

Young people from Indigenous and non-Indigenous backgrounds are set to benefit from a program aimed at strengthening the local poultry industry as well as unemployment figures.

Jobseekers in the New England North West will be connected to industry careers through the $78,000 Poultry Hub Jobs Program run by the University of New England.

The project is a facet of the Australian Government’s Local Recovery Fund, an important part of the $276 million Local Jobs Program.

Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the project has been designed to meet employer skill requirements for growing demand for poultry industry workers.

‘One of the key aspects of this innovative activity is that it will include the delivery of tailored training that directly answer the needs of local employers,’ Mr Joyce said.

‘Participants will have the chance to visit local businesses looking to hire, and the project will also provide transport to ensure everyone has the chance to take part.

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert MP, said Local Recovery Fund projects are an important part of the Australian Government’s ongoing economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘This Local Recovery Fund project is one of many funded across the country to support communities by helping people find work and meeting the needs of local employers,’ Minister Robert said.

‘The poultry industry is a key sector across the New England and North West Employment Region and so I encourage those looking for work to take part for a rewarding career opportunity in their region.’

The program is being run in Tamworth, Gunnedah and Moonbi and supports the region by funding tailored projects to help align job seekers with employment opportunities in their community.
