Unite for a cause: Class ready to shave their heads

READY TO SHAVE: The Calrossy boys will be shaving off their locks for a cause.

Every day another 35 Australians are diagnosed with blood cancer. That's one Aussie every 41 minutes.

So, boys from Calrossy Anglican School have decided to do something about it.

Mitchell Watts, 17, said most of the grade would be participating in the World's Greatest Shave.

"It's a tradition that we decided to continue," he said.

"I have never shaved my head before, so I am not sure how it's going to look, but you have to do what you have to do.

"It's for a great cause which makes it worth it."

Mitchell said his grandmother was affected by cancer, so it is a cause close to his heart.

He added there was a sense of mateship among the boys knowing they were all in this together.

Principal David Smith said he was incredibly proud of the students for banding together to make a practical difference.

"Cancer is something that affects a lot of people," he said.

Mr Smith said the teachers get involved as well.

"Last year, I had my hair painted pink, and it took a couple of weeks to wash out," he said.

"This year, some teachers are prepared to dye their hair." For more information or to support the boys in their fundraising efforts, click here.
