Councillors endorsed a plan which aims to see Manilla’s Chaffey Park become a central sporting precinct in the future.
The big win it provides for the Manilla community is the creation of a new home for rugby league on a dedicated field, relocating the sport from shared space at Manilla Showground.
Council listened to feedback from community members during the consultation period about the masterplan and decided to include their suggestions to include netball courts, walking and jogging paths and beautification of the areas adjacent to the Namoi River.
Two options were put to the community for design layouts, with 51 per cent of responders choosing the first and 49 per cent choosing the second.
The Chaffey Park Masterplan is intended to be implemented in stages to allow specific elements to be prioritised as funding becomes available and/or if community needs change.
However, none of these actions are currently funded and will require funding consideration in future budgets and prioritisation for grant applications as required.
