Veterans' recognised on 75th anniversary of Second World War

Updated: Oct 12, 2020

Veterans living in the New England region who served in the Second World War are set to receive a commemorative medallion marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the war.

The medallion is available to all living veterans who apply and will be presented in a display case as a gesture of appreciation.

Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said the region has a rich military history and is home to many remarkable Australians who served during the second world war.

“These people made great sacrifices to defend many of the freedoms we enjoy today here in Australia and it’s important we recognise that contribution on this special anniversary, " Mr Joyce said.

“I encourage all eligible ex-servicemen and women to contact my office to arrange for the award of a medallion and certificate.”

The medallions coincide with a televised commemorative service Saturday 15th August commencing at 10 am on the ABC.

Veterans or family members on their behalf can contact Mr Joyce's office to apply on 6761 3080 or online at dva.gov.au/medallion.
