Virgin Australia have announced they are withdrawing from negotiations with Tamworth Regional Council to set up a pilot flight training school.
The, at times controversial, training ground was set to train up to 500 students each year and address Australia’s pilot shortage. However, Virgin has said that it’s currently reducing capacity and removing aircraft from it’s fleet and doesn’t see any demand for pilot cadets in the foreseeable future. It says that operating conditions in the industry have altered significantly since the last update on what was to be a 30 million dollar project.
The project was given the tick of approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board and was expected to be operating by the end of the year.
Virgin has apologised for any disappointment the cancellation of this project may have caused the Tamworth community.
