Woman remains critical following head-on crash


Investigators are on the scene of a car crash that left a woman with critical injuries.


About 10pm on Tuesday, a black Ford Territory, being driven by a 40-year-old man and carrying a 35-year-old female passenger, was heading north on the New England Highway.


A BMW, being driven by a 54-year-old man was heading south on the same stretch of road when the two cars collided.


The female passenger of the Territory suffered two broken legs, a fractured wrist and internal bleeding. She was taken to Armidale Hospital and is expected to be flown to John Hunter Hospital later today.


IN OTHER NEWS:


Both drivers suffered relatively minor injuries and were taken to hospital for mandatory testing.


Inquiries have commenced by officers from the Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit.

Live Traffic NSW shows the New England Highway at Glen Innes Road is closed in both directions.


Motorists can use Manilla Road and the Gwydir Highway to travel between Tamworth and Glen Innes vis Warialda.


Motorists should allow an extra 60 minutes in travel time.


Heavy vehicles should use Oxley Highway and Pacific Highway as Manilla Road is not suitable.
